On the (sigh!) road home...

Day 1 - March 28 - Closing down in Cuyutlan and off to Ajijic...
Although Meg and I thought we were pretty well tidied up, it still took all morning to get the casa locked down then one refreshing last dip in the 83F pool...it's perfect...and a quick trip around the 'hood to say 'Farewell' to friends.  Connecting Celeste, our Astro van, to Bea, the newly spiffed-up Boler, there seems like an important part of the stabilizer bar missing so we cannot use it ... there may be a side-to-side sway.
On the road by 1pm and heading for Ajijic. That road from the autopista to Jocotepec definitely is tricky - narrow with no shoulders - kinda like that sea snake I encountered. Meg drove it well and 3 1/2 hours later we arrived at Chris & Rich's casa in Las Palmas to meet up with Nick & Roger. What a peaceful spot...lush garden and twittering birds. After a much anticipated beverage, we are off to meet Ida and Pat who live a stone's throw away. Their home is enchanting along with huge tropical garden and yard. Even without the crashing surf, Ajijic has its points.

Day 2 - Ajijic to Celestino Garcia
We woke up at daybreak, as usual, to be sound of birds chirping. I thought it was a lovely cacophony... Meg had other thoughts about what the birds could do...!! Seems like not many people are up early in Ajijic..an easy drive out and onto the autopista to Guadalajara. Stopped at a Pemex to gas up and noticed one of the equalizer bars was loose...then noticed the bracket was bent. The gas guy offered to bend it back into shape, which he did, but the bolt ended up stripped. Now we have no stabilizer bar and only one equalizer bar....hmmm?!!
A fairly easy drive along the Periferico skirting GDL then beyond to the grey-blue vistas of the agave fields along the rolling hills of Tequila. On and on we drove past miles and miles of fields of maiz (corn), cana (sugar cane) and tabac (tobacco)....dead dog....small farms...another dead dog....an ostrich farm in Del Rio...on and on along the autopista...a UFO (unidentified flatten object)...families on motorcycles (papa, mama y bebe asleep in between)...a girl carrying a huge birthday cake hanging onto her boyfriend on the back of a bike...skirting Mazatlan....flocks of lime-green parakets flitting through the scrub brush.

Meg is running on empty...11 hours of driving...according to the Church's RV bible, there is supposed to be a turnoff at KM 73 for the campsite we are headed to...no exit. A little bit further we gently manouver Celeste y Bea onto a dirt path, over the highway following a sign to Rosenda Nebla and hopefully our RV site....rust-coloured washboard lane towards the playa and, eventually, Celestino RV park - 100 peso/night. Totally exhausted. we scout around for the restaurant mentioned in the RV book to find nada. Cold weiners, crackers, flan and Scotch... did we get the four major food groups?

The sun goes down on a 3 dead dog day (5DDD)/4UFO.
