Still on the (whimper) road home...

Day 3 - More and more kms...
Somewhere along the road yesterday we either gained or lost an hour. Anyhoo, we are up at 6 (or 7) and, having nothing to eat, drive out of the RV park to find the gate locked...so much for the early start. It's refreshing to see how someone responds to a honking horn at 6am (0:  To our surprise, we pass 2 more RV parks in this little hamlet of Celestino Garcia before hitting the highway.

Heading up the highway we now encounter huge Mexican-style grow ops - gynormous tents for growing... tomatoes. I believe there is a tomato on the Sinaloa state licence plate. Trucks overflowing with tomatoes line up at tomato-processing plants....goats and cattle in roadside farms nibble on piles of, you guessed it, tomatoes. Will the milk be pink?

Meg and I expected to find a desayuno (breakfast) stand along the road, but, nada...so we figure we can buy some eggs and bacon at a Pemex/Oxxo to cook breakfast...but again, nada. Back on the road with a couple of meat-like substance and cheese sandwiches - the best meat-like substance and cheese sandwiches we have ever had, the landscape is very pleasant - majestic eucalyptus trees line the highway, 'Simpson' clouds hover over the rolling hills, fields of corn sway as far as the eye can see and cover, pretty much, the area from Mazatlan to Los Mochis.

At some toll booth, outside Navajoa, I think, we pass a Class-A motorhome with Quebec plates...then another and another. Turns out there is a 20+ convoy of these huge vehicles heading north -snowbirds returning to the nest. Meg is very weary...another long day...but, nevertheless, passes all the convoy, beetles along the never-ending road, by-passing Guaymas and wheels into the Totonaka RV park in San Carlos. 300 pesos/night ...yikes!! The park is full of more huge RVs including another 20+ rig convoy that has toured Mexico from coast-to-coast for 2 months. We feel very small compared to these units. The opulence is overwhelming...definitely not our style.

After a great dinner of camarones al ajo for Meg and chiles rellenos a carmarones for me, we turn in to our little Boler. 5DDD/3UFO
